Kap’s Café in Surrey hit by bullets for the third time; police investigate possible extortion. No injuries reported during early-morning attack.
Surrey Café Hit by Bullets Again
Kap’s Café in Surrey became the target of a shooting for the third time in the early hours of Thursday, marking another alarming incident in the city’s rising extortion-related violence.
Incident Occurred at Dawn
At approximately 3:43 a.m. on October 16, Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers responded to reports of gunfire at Kap’s Café, located on the 8400-block of 120 Street. Officers found the café had sustained multiple bullet impacts. Fortunately, staff present at the scene were unharmed.
Business with a High-Profile Owner
Kap’s Café is owned by Indian entertainment star Kapil Sharma. The café previously faced shootings on July 10 and August 7, incidents linked to alleged extortion attempts. The business had recently reopened earlier this month after repairs from the earlier attacks.
Investigation Underway
SPS media liaison Ian MacDonald indicated that while the shooting “has the earmarks of extortion,” the investigation is still in its early stages. A provincial task force has been established to address the rise in extortion-related violence in Surrey, though it is not yet confirmed whether this specific case will be transferred to the task force.
Extortion Threats Rising in Surrey
Data released by SPS shows that as of October 15, there were 65 reported extortion threats and 35 shootings tied to extortion across the city. The repeated targeting of Kap’s Café has prompted increased police presence at the location, including a camera tower and an SPS vehicle. Details about patrol activities and surveillance remain undisclosed for security reasons.
Community Appeal for Information
Police are seeking any information from the public that could help identify the suspect(s). Witnesses with dashcam or CCTV footage are urged to contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502, quoting file number 25-90856 (SP), or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at solvecrime.ca.
