A Surrey man pleads guilty to manslaughter in the 2022 shooting of White Rock resident David Goldstein, marking a step toward closure for his grieving family.
Guilty Plea Brings Closure in Surrey’s 2022 Shooting Case
Justice has taken a significant step forward in a tragic Surrey shooting that left a White Rock family heartbroken. More than three years after the deadly incident, 28-year-old Campbell has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2022 killing of David Goldstein, a 33-year-old resident of White Rock.
The plea was entered in B.C. Supreme Court on October 9, marking the latest chapter in a case that has haunted the community since that fateful night in South Surrey’s Peninsula Village area.
A Tragic Night Remembered
In the early hours of April 6, 2022, emergency responders rushed to a home near 24 Avenue and 152A Street after reports of gunfire. Goldstein was found critically injured and later succumbed to his wounds two days later in hospital.
The incident shocked neighbors and sparked an intensive investigation led by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), whose efforts have now led to a long-awaited guilty plea.
Investigators Reflect on Perseverance and Teamwork
“This conviction was made possible through persistence, collaboration, and the dedication of our investigators,” said IHIT Sgt. Freda Fong in a statement. “We hope today’s outcome helps the victim’s family as they continue their healing journey.”
IHIT credited its specialized resources and strong partnerships with other law enforcement agencies for helping to secure the plea. Fong also extended gratitude to Goldstein’s family for their patience and trust throughout the lengthy investigation.
A Complex Web of Crimes
At the time of his first-degree murder charge in 2023, Campbell was already behind bars for another violent episode — a July 2022 shooting at South Surrey Athletic Park that left two people dead and another seriously injured.
While Thursday’s plea does not erase the pain of the past, it offers a measure of accountability and a sense of progress in a case that once seemed mired in uncertainty.
Healing and Hope Ahead
For Goldstein’s loved ones, the guilty plea serves as a step — however small — toward healing. It closes one painful chapter and opens the door to reflection, remembrance, and rebuilding.
As Sgt. Fong expressed, “We’re hopeful this resolution brings some peace to those who’ve carried the weight of this tragedy for far too long.”
