Surrey Unveils Advisory Board for New Sports Hall of Fame

Surrey has announced the nine-member advisory board for its inaugural Sports Hall of Fame, tasked with selecting the first inductees and shaping exhibits.

Surrey announces nine members for its first Sports Hall of Fame advisory board, setting the stage for 2026’s inaugural induction ceremony.

Surrey’s Sporting Legacy Takes Shape

Big news for Surrey’s sports community! The city has officially named the advisory board that will shape the brand-new Surrey Sports Hall of Fame, marking a major step toward honouring the region’s athletic legends.

Announced on October 9, the board includes nine community members and one city councillor who will guide everything from the Hall’s vision to its first inductees.

Who’s Leading the Way?

The lineup features local leaders with deep ties to Surrey’s sports and community spirit:
Faythe Lou, Gurpreet Rai, Jon Mara, Kuldip Singh Sidhu, Mike McKay, Rajgurav Shergill, Scott Ackles, Stewart Masi, and Thomas Hastie.

City Councillor Gordon Hepner joins them as the official council representative. The team will review nominations, select inductees, and design engaging exhibit themes that highlight Surrey’s athletic history.

“I’m proud to be part of a project that honours Surrey’s athletes, coaches, and community leaders,” said Hepner. “The Hall of Fame will celebrate their achievements and inspire the next generation to get involved in sport and give back.”

Honouring Excellence in Sport

Mayor Brenda Locke shared her excitement about the Hall’s potential to celebrate the city’s diversity and determination.

“The Surrey Sports Hall of Fame is a powerful way to honour the stories and triumphs of those who’ve made a lasting impact through sport,” Locke said. “It truly reflects Surrey’s spirit — diverse, resilient, and rooted in community pride.”

How You Can Get Involved

Nominations are now open for the inaugural class of inductees, with the deadline set for December 31. Categories include:

  • Athlete
  • High-Performance Athlete
  • Team
  • Builder
  • Coach
  • Game Changer
  • Community Hero

Anyone passionate about local sports can submit a nomination. It’s a chance to shine a light on those who’ve shaped Surrey’s athletic landscape.

Looking Ahead to 2026

The first induction ceremony is planned for June 2026, with a temporary exhibition set to launch that spring at the Museum of Surrey in Cloverdale. Visitors can expect digital kiosks in community spaces across the city — from local rinks to civic centres — offering an interactive way to experience Surrey’s sports heritage.

As the countdown begins, one thing is clear: the Surrey Sports Hall of Fame is set to become a lasting tribute to the people and moments that define the city’s vibrant sporting culture.
