Vancouver Giants secure first road win with a 5-3 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors. Halaburda shines, Hood saves 25, and Chorney nets his first WHL goal.
Giants Strike Gold on the Road
The Vancouver Giants finally broke through with their first road win of the season, defeating the Moose Jaw Warriors 5–3 on Saturday night at Temple Gardens Centre. The victory pushes Vancouver’s record to 2-3-0, marking a confident step forward after a shaky start.
Forward Ty Halaburda stayed red-hot, notching two more goals—his fifth and sixth of the year. Teammates Jakob Oreskovic and Tobias Tomik each found the back of the net for the second straight night, while Blake Chorney scored his first-ever WHL goal, sealing the win.Power Plays and Persistence Pay Off
Moose Jaw opened the scoring midway through the first period, but the Giants didn’t flinch. Oreskovic drew a key penalty that led to Halaburda’s first power-play goal. Less than a minute later, the Warriors briefly reclaimed the lead, only for Halaburda to strike again—this time off a rebound from a slick setup by Cameron Schmidt.
By the end of the first, it was all square at 2–2. The Giants came out firing in the second period, a frame that had been their Achilles’ heel in earlier games. Oreskovic buried a go-ahead goal just over three minutes in, assisted by rookie Richard Wonyeneh, who celebrated his first WHL point.
Late in the period, Chorney’s milestone goal extended the lead to 4–2, showcasing both poise and patience as he powered past the defense to slide the puck home.
Defense Holds Strong, Hood Stands Tall
The Warriors clawed back with a power-play goal in the third, trimming the gap to one. But that was as close as they’d get. Vancouver’s defense tightened, led by Marek Howell, whose fearless shot blocking drew praise from the bench.
Goaltender Burke Hood anchored the back end with 25 saves, earning his second win of the season. “We’re very proud of the group,” said Assistant Coach Gaelan Patterson. “We had a great second period, and a lot of guys stepped up and played like men.”

Finishing Strong and Looking Ahead
With just 11 seconds left, Tomik sealed the deal with an empty-netter, capping off a determined team performance. The final horn sounded at 5–3, giving the Giants a much-needed confidence boost heading into a packed road stretch.
The team now faces four more road games in five days before returning home to host Wenatchee on Friday, October 17, at the Langley Events Centre. Puck drops at 7 p.m., and if Saturday’s energy is any sign, the Giants are just getting warmed up.
