Two Vancouver Favorites Head to Surrey
Food lovers in Surrey have something new to celebrate: Breka bakery and Big Way hot pot are both preparing to open their first Surrey locations at the King George Hub. The news, announced by PCI Developments, marks a milestone for the two Vancouver-based dining powerhouses as they branch out into Surrey City Centre.
King George Hub Continues to Grow
The upcoming restaurants will be part of Plaza One and Plaza Two, the fourth phase of the multi-use King George Hub. Located next to the King George SkyTrain station, the development includes two residential towers with 886 homes and 30,000 square feet of retail and dining space. With each new addition, the project is reshaping Surrey’s downtown core into a buzzing urban hub.
Breka Bakery Expands Beyond Vancouver
Breka bakery, famous for its 24/7 service, will bring its round-the-clock baked treats to Surrey for the first time. Since opening in 2006, the café has grown to eight Vancouver locations, including its newest Hastings-Sunrise spot launched in June 2024. Known for fresh donuts, cakes, breads, cookies, and hearty sandwiches, Breka has become a go-to café chain that never closes. Surrey fans will now have the same all-day, all-night option without crossing the bridge.
Big Way Hot Pot Brings DIY Dining
Big Way hot pot, another Vancouver success story, is also making its Surrey debut. The fast-growing chain is beloved for its customizable hot pot experience built around its signature spicy “malatang” broth. Diners pick their own ingredients by weight, choose a broth, and then build their own sauces at the self-serve bar. Every meal ends with a free swirl of soft-serve ice cream, keeping customers coming back for more.
The brand has expanded rapidly across Metro Vancouver, recently opening a Burnaby location at Gilmore. Beyond B.C., it has also launched restaurants in Ontario and Los Angeles, with even more on the way.
What’s Next for Surrey?
So far, Breka and Big Way have not shared opening dates or further details about their King George Hub locations. However, excitement is building as both brands prepare to join Surrey’s growing food scene. For local diners, it’s just a matter of time before late-night pastries and steaming bowls of hot pot become part of City Centre’s everyday flavor.
