Surrey CIBC Run for the Cure Returns Oct. 5

Surrey Gears Up for CIBC Run for the Cure

This Sunday, Surrey will come alive with the energy and hope of the CIBC Run for the Cure, a signature event dedicated to fighting breast cancer. From 8:30 a.m. to noon on October 5, Crescent Park will host walkers and runners of all ages, raising crucial funds for treatment, research, and support through the Canadian Cancer Society. The Surrey run is one of eight events taking place across British Columbia this year, highlighting the province’s dedication to tackling this common disease.

A Legacy of Hope and Community Support

Surrey first joined the movement in 2013 at Bear Creek Park, drawing over 1,150 participants who raised nearly $178,000 for the cause. This year, the event kicks off near the park’s playground at 12930 28 Ave., with participants choosing between a one-kilometre or five-kilometre route. The spirit of volunteering and community is at the heart of the event, making it the largest single-day, volunteer-led initiative in Canada supporting breast cancer.

Leading Fundraisers Inspire Action

Surrey’s fundraising efforts are already gaining momentum. Steve Fedow leads the pack with $11,280 raised for Team Sensational Sisters. Close behind are Dawn Durant of Dani’s Team Tumornators ($6,833), Leslie Hill with Team Together in Pink ($6,036.50), and Sydney Arce of Team Metastatic Breast Cancer ($4,865.60). Each contribution directly supports research projects, treatment programs, and local families affected by breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Remains a Major Concern

Breast cancer continues to affect one in eight Canadian women, making early detection and research critical. Since 1992, the CIBC Run for the Cure has raised more than $507 million nationwide to fund studies and improve care for those battling the disease. Events like the Surrey run are vital in keeping this momentum alive.

Events Across B.C. and Beyond

In addition to Surrey, other B.C. communities including Abbotsford, Kamloops, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Prince George, Vancouver, and Victoria will host runs this Sunday. For those unable to attend in person, the Run. Anywhere. Anyway option allows participation from any location, ensuring everyone can join the cause.

How to Participate

The CIBC Run for the Cure welcomes individuals of all ages and abilities. Whether walking, running, or donating online, every action counts toward advancing research and supporting those affected by breast cancer. To register, donate, or learn more, visit support.cancer.ca.
