Surrey-North Delta Meals on Wheels has been delivering freshly prepared, nutritious meals to residents for 55 years, but the non-profit now needs the community’s support to continue.
The volunteer-driven organization provides affordable, ready-to-heat meals for seniors, people with disabilities, low-income residents, and individuals recovering from illness or surgery who cannot prepare adequate meals themselves. More than 100 people currently rely on the service each week across neighbourhoods including Whalley, Guildford, Newton, Fleetwood, Fraser Heights, Cloverdale, Cedar Hills, and Bridgeview.
The charity is seeking financial donations and additional volunteers to deliver meals. Volunteer drivers must hold a Class 5 licence and are reimbursed for mileage. Volunteers are asked to report at 9:30 a.m. and typically complete deliveries by early afternoon.
“With an aging population, demand for the service is expected to continue,” the group states. Rising food costs have also increased expenses, with meal prices adjusted as of Sept. 1, 2025, to $11.50 for an entrée and $6.50 for a bag lunch.
Donations help offset the cost of food and keep prices affordable for vulnerable clients. To donate or learn more about volunteering, visit sdnmow.com.
