Sept. 23, Surrey — BC Ferries passengers are still facing disruptions after the Queen of Surrey was sidelined yesterday, Sept. 22, due to a turbocharger issue.
The vessel’s ongoing repair needs meant cancellations spilled into today, including sailings between Horseshoe Bay, Departure Bay, and Langdale. Among the trips cancelled were the 6:15 a.m. sailing from Horseshoe Bay, the 2:45 p.m. from Departure Bay, the 7:25 p.m. from Horseshoe Bay, and the 10:40 p.m. from Departure Bay. The 5:30 p.m. Horseshoe Bay to Langdale sailing was also called off.
BC Ferries first reported the problem late Saturday night, Sept. 21, and cancelled multiple sailings through Sunday. The company deployed free water taxis — two 12-passenger boats and two larger vessels — to help stranded passengers move between terminals.
In an update, BC Ferries said engineering crews remain on site working on the repairs, but the Queen of Surrey will remain out of service “for the time being.” Customers affected by cancellations are being contacted about alternative bookings or refunds.
Some travelers have expressed frustration over the delays, sharing their experiences on social media.
