The Vancouver Canucks return to Rogers Arena on Sunday night for their first meeting of the season against the Colorado Avalanche — the league’s top-ranked team. After a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets, head coach Adam Foote praised his squad’s poise and growing leadership.

“It’s a sign we’re growing again,” said Foote. “Our leadership group is growing. We’re learning to stay calm and handle pressure one day at a time.”

Avalanche Bring Firepower to Vancouver

The Colorado Avalanche enter this matchup fresh off a dominant 9-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers. Nathan MacKinnon led the charge with two goals and two assists, bringing his season total to 24 points (12 goals, 12 assists).
Defenceman Cale Makar remains another key threat with 20 points in just 15 games. The Avalanche currently sit atop the NHL standings with a 9-1-5 record and boast the league’s second-highest goals-per-game average (3.93) while allowing the fewest goals per game (2.4).

Sunday’s contest concludes Colorado’s quick two-game road trip and marks their third back-to-back of the season.

Drew O’Connor’s Hot Streak

Forward Drew O’Connor has been one of Vancouver’s standout performers, notching three multi-point games in his last five outings. Skating alongside Aatu Räty and Jake DeBrusk, O’Connor helped outscore the Blue Jackets 2-0 in their last game.

“I knew what to expect out of those two guys,” said DeBrusk. “Rats is strong on draws and solid defensively, and OC is a workhorse.”
