Surrey Council has approved moving the 24 Avenue–Highway 99 interchange upgrade in South Surrey to the detailed design stage. The project, developed with the Province of B.C., will add north-facing ramps to ease congestion and improve safety. Mayor Brenda Locke said the upgrade will boost connectivity and housing growth, while Coun. Gord Hepner noted it will relieve traffic on key routes. A 20 Avenue overpass and nearby Costco proposal highlight South Surrey’s ongoing expansion.

B.C. public-service strike ends as tentative deal reached

After nearly eight weeks on strike, the B.C. General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) has reached a tentative agreement with the provincial government. The deal includes a 3% annual wage increase over four years, along with enhanced benefits and workplace protections for the union’s 34,000 public-service members. Negotiations concluded following mediation by Vince Ready and Amanda Rogers. While the agreement awaits member ratification, the Professional Employees’ Union (PEU)—which joined BCGEU on picket lines—remains without a deal. The resolution marks a significant step toward restoring stability across B.C.’s public services.
