The BC Utilities Commission has approved FortisBC’s $1.14 billion Tilbury LNG expansion in Delta, replacing a 56-year-old tank with a larger 3-billion-cubic-foot facility to boost energy reliability. A 46-year-old man, David Bruce Baxter, has been charged after shots were fired outside a Surrey home on Oct. 26. Surrey Police responded around 8:45 p.m. to the 14100-block of 72 Avenue, arresting a suspect at the scene. No one was injured, though the residence was damaged. Baxter faces charges of attempted murder and discharging a firearm at a residence.
Police are also investigating an unrelated shooting earlier that morning in the 7800-block of 124 Street. SPS urges anyone with information or footage from either incident to come forward.

Earlier that morning, a fatal shooting took place on Ridgeview Drive, while a Saturday incident at Clearbrook Road and Downes Road left one person with minor injuries. Police say Monday’s noon-hour shooting appears targeted and is unrelated to the other cases. The recent violence comes after Abbotsford recorded a five-year low in homicide rates in 2024, according to Statistics Canada. Investigators are appealing for witnesses to contact 604-859-5225.

Nearly 30 passengers were stranded for almost four hours after a power line fell onto a BC Transit bus in Saanich early Oct. 26. The Route 28 bus was travelling along Feltham Road near Cedar Hill Road when a fallen tree brought down a utility pole and live wires during a storm. Passengers were ordered to remain inside until BC Hydro crews could safely remove the lines. Heavy rainfall and widespread power outages delayed the response, but all passengers were later transferred to another bus without injuries. BC Transit thanked customers, Hydro crews, and emergency responders for ensuring everyone’s safety.
