The City of Surrey has approved a $652,881 contract with Dougness Holdings Ltd. to inspect and test North Surrey’s sewer system over the next three years. The $718,200 program will assess 4,451 manholes and 281,760 metres of sewer mains to reduce rainwater inflow, which has tripled system flows during storms. Officials warn excess water strains Metro Vancouver’s limits, drives up treatment costs, and harms the environment. The inspections, beginning this month, aim to curb overflows and protect long-term sustainability.

Surrey man charged with sexual assault and theft

A 42-year-old Surrey man, Kulwinder Mann, has been charged with sexual assault, theft under $5,000, and assault after incidents near King George Boulevard on Aug. 26. Police allege he stole a man’s phone before assaulting a woman in the same area. Mann was identified within a day and taken into custody. He appeared in court on Oct. 2, and the case remains before the courts.
