Surrey expands Remembrance Day events to six sites on Nov. 11, with the main service at Veterans’ Square in Cloverdale featuring flypasts, bands, and tributes.
Surrey to Host Six Remembrance Day Ceremonies Nov. 11
Honouring Service and Sacrifice
Surrey’s main Remembrance Day ceremony will once again take place at Veterans’ Square in Cloverdale on November 11, as the city expands its observances to six locations this year—two more than in 2024. Organized by the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 6, the event will pay tribute to those who served and sacrificed for Canada.
Preparing for a Citywide Tribute
Event organizers say preparations are nearly complete. Yvon Lehoux, sergeant-at-arms for the Cloverdale Legion, said the team has been working tirelessly to ensure the day runs smoothly. “A lot goes into the planning for such a large event,” Lehoux said. “We pay respect to past veterans and those who still serve. It’s also a good time to reflect on national unity.”
Ceremony Highlights
The Cloverdale service will begin with a procession at 10 a.m., followed by a cenotaph service at 10:25 a.m. The Surrey Police Service Pipe Band, Cloverdale United Church choir, and bugler Chris Ahern will perform during the ceremony. A flypast of vintage warplanes is scheduled between 11 and 11:30 a.m., weather permitting.
This year will also feature a special tribute: Brian Deck will lay a wreath in honour of prisoners of war, continuing a tradition started by his late father, Richmond “Dick” Deck, a World War II airman who passed away at 103.
New Additions for 2025
Lehoux confirmed the participation of the Seaforth Highlanders, who plan to open a branch in Surrey and will march in this year’s procession. Representatives from the 39th Service Battalion in Richmond will also attend, underscoring the event’s growing regional support.
Three stands, each seating about 500 attendees, will be set up at Veterans’ Square. Organizers expect up to 5,000 people to attend, depending on weather conditions. After the ceremony, a parade featuring 500 marchers will move from Veterans’ Square to the Cloverdale Legion, where the public is invited for food, refreshments, and live entertainment.
Citywide Ceremonies
Residents unable to attend the main service can join one of five additional ceremonies across Surrey. Events will proceed rain or shine, and attendees are advised to arrive early for parking.

Reflecting on National Unity
For Lehoux and many veterans, Remembrance Day remains deeply personal. “It’s a very emotional time,” he said. “We’re remembering those who gave their lives, but also celebrating the unity that comes from shared remembrance.”
As Surrey expands its observances, the message is clear: the city stands together in gratitude—honouring the past while looking toward a peaceful future.
