Extra Surrey Shelters Open Amid Heavy Rainfall Warning

With 15–25 mm of rain expected, Surrey will open multiple community shelters on Oct. 31 for vulnerable residents needing warmth and safety overnight.

As heavy rain hits Metro Vancouver, several extra community-based shelters will open in Surrey on Halloween night (Oct. 31) to provide warmth and safety for vulnerable residents.

According to Environment Canada, 15 to 25 mm of rainfall is expected in White Rock on Friday, with overnight temperatures around 9°C. A rainfall warning has been issued for the region, with the heaviest showers anticipated in the evening.

The Homelessness Services Association of B.C. issued an Extreme Weather Alert Friday, prompting additional shelters to open across the city.

Shelters Open in Surrey (Oct. 31 Night)

1. Surrey Alliance Church
13474 96th Ave. | 9 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
Accessible through the rear breezeway entrance. For adults 19+. No pets. 30 mats available.

2. South Surrey Recreation & Arts Centre EWR
14601 20th Ave. | 10 p.m. – 7 a.m.
Pet-friendly and accessible via the lower parking lot. For adults 19+, couples welcome. 45 mats available.

3. NightShift Ministries
10635 King George Blvd. | 10 p.m. – 7 a.m.
Not wheelchair-accessible. For adults 19+. No pets or carts. 16 mats available.

4. Surrey Welcome Hub

For youth 24 and under. Hot meals, showers, and laundry available. Bus tickets upon exit. No pets. 8 mats available.
