North Vancouver’s Nina Jobst-Smith signs a two-year deal with PWHL Vancouver, joining fellow draft picks Brianna Brooks and Madison Samoskevich.
North Vancouver’s Own Skates Into Pro Spotlight
There’s nothing quite like a hometown dream coming full circle — and that’s exactly what’s happening for Nina Jobst-Smith. The North Vancouver native has officially signed a two-year contract with PWHL Vancouver, marking a major milestone in her hockey journey.
The 24-year-old defender, who was selected 19th overall in the 2025 PWHL Draft, couldn’t hide her excitement about joining her city’s new professional women’s hockey team.
“It’s truly a dream come true,” Jobst-Smith shared. “Getting to play for the city that sparked my love for the game feels incredible. I can’t wait to get started!”
From Duluth to Vancouver: A Global Talent
Jobst-Smith made her mark playing for the University of Minnesota Duluth during the 2024–25 season. She’s also no stranger to the international stage, having represented Germany in five IIHF Women’s World Championships. Her defensive skills and international experience make her a key addition to Vancouver’s inaugural roster.
Rising Stars Join the Roster
Vancouver didn’t stop there. The team also signed two other promising draft picks — Brianna Brooks and Madison Samoskevich — both eager to hit the ice.
Brooks, drafted from Penn State University, inked a one-year contract for the 2025–26 season. As the first player from Penn State and Atlantic Hockey America ever drafted into the PWHL, she’s already making history.
“This moment means everything to me,” said Brooks. “I’m proud to help grow women’s hockey and to call Vancouver my new home. Every sacrifice has led me here.”
Meanwhile, Samoskevich — a 22-year-old standout from Quinnipiac University — was picked 39th overall. The Sandy Hook, Connecticut native is thrilled to be part of something new.
“Joining PWHL Vancouver’s first-ever team is so special,” Samoskevich said. “We’re building something from the ground up, and I can’t wait to get to work.”
A New Era for Women’s Hockey in Vancouver
Fans won’t have to wait long to see these stars in action. PWHL Vancouver drops the puck on November 21, facing off against PWHL Seattle at the historic Pacific Coliseum, with the PNE Agrodome serving as the team’s training base.
The Takeaway
With Jobst-Smith leading the charge, and Brooks and Samoskevich bringing fresh energy, PWHL Vancouver is setting the stage for an unforgettable debut season. For hometown fans, it’s not just about hockey — it’s about watching local dreams take flight on home ice.
