The Delta Police Department (DPD) said officers were called to the 7000-block of Highway 17, west of 80th Street, around 11:20 p.m. on October 26 following reports of a motor vehicle incident and subsequent blaze.
Scene and Emergency Response
Emergency crews arrived within minutes to find a vehicle engulfed in flames near the 72nd Street overpass. Despite the rapid response of firefighters and paramedics, the woman inside the car was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed she was the only person in the vehicle.
Early Stages of the Investigation
The DPD said the cause of the fire and the events leading up to it remain under active investigation. Investigators have not disclosed what type of collision may have occurred before the vehicle caught fire.
