Surrey man charged after late-night shots fired at residence

A 46-year-old man, David Bruce Baxter, has been charged after shots were fired outside a Surrey home on Oct. 26. Surrey Police responded around 8:45 p.m. to the 14100-block of 72 Avenue, arresting a suspect at the scene. No one was injured, though the residence was damaged. Baxter faces charges of attempted murder and discharging a firearm at a residence.
Police are also investigating an unrelated shooting earlier that morning in the 7800-block of 124 Street. SPS urges anyone with information or footage from either incident to come forward.

Surrey man charged after late-night shots fired at residence

A 46-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with one of two separate shots-fired incidents in Surrey on Sunday, Oct. 26.

Incident unfolds in Surrey neighbourhood

On Sunday evening (Oct. 26), officers from the Surrey Police Service (SPS) were called to the 14100-block of 72 Avenue in Surrey after reports of gunfire outside a residence at about 8:45 p.m. According to SPS, a dispute between multiple individuals preceded the shots. Responding officers found a suspect still on scene and took that person into custody. No injuries were reported, though the exterior of the home sustained damage from several bullets.

Second shooting incident under separate investigation

Earlier that morning, at about 2:43 a.m., SPS also received reports of a shots-fired incident in the 7800-block of 124 Street in Surrey. Police have indicated the two events appear to be unrelated and that the 72 Avenue incident is not considered extortion-related. The investigation into the early-morning event remains ongoing while authorities focus on the evening case.

Suspect charged and court appearance scheduled

The arrested individual has been identified as 46-year-old David Bruce Baxter, who faces charges including attempted murder using a firearm and discharging a firearm at a residence. He remains in custody and was scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon. SPS emphasised that because the matter is before the courts, further specific information cannot yet be released.

Police underscore community safety and call for information

SPS urges anyone with information or video footage related to either of the two shootings to come forward. The service noted that, although there were no injuries in the 8:45 p.m. incident, the discharging of a firearm in a residential area poses a serious public-safety risk. Community cooperation is key to assisting with the investigation and holding all parties accountable.

Impact on local residents and next steps

Residents in the affected neighbourhoods have expressed concern at the violence in the middle of residential streets. Local officials say the arrests and charges in the 72 Avenue case will send a strong deterrent message. SPS plans to continue patrols and engage with community partners to address any underlying tensions that may have contributed to the disputes. Meanwhile, investigations into both incidents are continuing and members of the public are encouraged to contact Surrey Police if they have any relevant information.
