Peter Oldring joins The Comic Strippers in Surrey for a laugh-out-loud improv night on Nov. 14. Expect outrageous fun, zero nudity, and total hilarity!
A New “Chip” on Stage: Comedy Meets Chaos in Surrey
Surrey, get ready to laugh until it hurts! The Comic Strippers are back this November at the Bell Performing Arts Centre — and they’re bringing a brand-new “Chip” to the mix. Enter Peter Oldring, the quick-witted comedian and podcaster who’s just moved to South Surrey.
Oldring joins his longtime friends Roman Danylo, Chris Casillan, and Pearce Visser for a night of unstoppable laughter on Friday, Nov. 14. If you’ve never seen The Comic Strippers, imagine a crew of mock “male dancers” who think they’re sexy but are anything but. The result? Pure comedic gold.
No Nudity, Just Non-Stop Laughter
Their tagline says it all: “No extreme nudity — just extreme hilarity.” This 19+ improv show mixes cheeky parody with sharp wit and interactive fun. The performers banter, “dance,” and toss out playful jokes — all while gyrating through scenes that are equal parts absurd and hysterical.
And yes, every performer goes by a “Chip” name — think Chip Dip or Chip Sinsalsa. Oldring’s new moniker? Chip Monk. Why? “Because I’ve still got a ton of spry energy,” he laughs. “And only I know where I hide my nuts.”
From Crescent Beach to Center Stage
Oldring, co-host of CBC’s hit podcast This Is That, recently returned to his roots in South Surrey with his wife, Sara Erikson. After spending years in Los Angeles, the pair fell in love with the Crescent Beach community during a short summer stay.
“We rented a house here and never looked back,” Oldring says. “It’s just a special place — South Surrey, White Rock, Crescent Beach — we love it.”
But performing in his new hometown comes with a twist of pressure. “My wife’s invited every friend she’s made here,” he laughs. “So, if the show bombs, we might have to sneak back to L.A. in shame.”
Comedy, Friendship, and Full-Circle Moments
This tour feels like a reunion for Oldring and Danylo, who first met in high school in Calgary. “Roman actually introduced me to improv at Loose Moose Theatre,” he recalls. “We even did lunchtime comedy shows called Sneak Previews. I’ve known him for more than half my life.”
Oldring also performed alongside Casillan and Visser at Vancouver’s iconic Theatresports on Granville Island — long before The Comic Strippers were born. “It’s full-circle for sure,” he says. “Now we’re back on stage together, just being goofs again.”
A Show Built on Playfulness and Improv Magic
So, what can Surrey audiences expect? A whole lot of laughter. “As soon as the music starts, the energy just explodes,” Oldring says. “It’s playful, cheeky, and totally ridiculous — a bunch of average guys pretending to be dancers and then jumping into improv. You can’t help but have fun.”
While the audience is mostly women, Oldring insists that brave men who show up always have a blast too. “At its heart, it’s all about comedy,” he says. “We’re just playing these characters — these overconfident ‘strippers’ — and letting the audience in on the joke.”
