Surrey Christmas Bureau Braces for Record Holiday Demand

The Surrey Christmas Bureau has opened registration for families seeking holiday help as living costs soar. With demand expected to surge, donations of toys, food, and funds are urgently needed.

Surrey Christmas Bureau opens registration for holiday help as demand surges amid rising costs. Families can apply for gifts, food, and support this season.

Hope Returns to Surrey: Christmas Help Begins

The spirit of giving is alive once again in Surrey as the Surrey Christmas Bureau (SCB) opens registration for its annual holiday assistance program. Starting October 17, families across the city can sign up for support through the organization’s Toy Depot, now located at 13665 102 Avenue in Whalley—a space generously donated by Anthem Properties.

With living costs and grocery prices climbing higher than Santa’s sleigh on Christmas Eve, many families face a painful decision: pay the bills or put gifts under the tree. According to Karmin Dhindsa, SCB’s program coordinator, that’s exactly why the organization exists.

“For more than 45 years, we’ve made sure families don’t have to choose,” Dhindsa shared.

Toy Depot: More Than Just a Warehouse

Opening its doors November 12, the Toy Depot will serve as both a donation hub and a lifeline for low-income families, operating Tuesday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m..

Families in need can register for help until December 1 by visiting christmasbureau.com or calling 604-581-9623.

This magical space is where parents can personally select donated toys for their children, ensuring each gift feels special and chosen with love. It’s not just about presents—it’s about preserving the joy of giving.

How You Can Brighten a Family’s Christmas

The Bureau welcomes donations of toys, food, and cash through two key programs:

  • Adopt-A-Family Program: Matches sponsor families with those in need, providing personalized gifts and grocery support.
  • Toy Depot Donations: Allows parents to choose toys for their children, creating a meaningful, hands-on experience.

Every contribution helps turn what could be a bleak December into a season filled with hope and happiness.

Demand Soars as Costs Keep Rising

The numbers speak volumes. In 2024 alone, the Surrey Christmas Bureau supported:

  • 1,913 families
  • 4,943 children
  • 7,771 individuals
  • $245,000 in grocery vouchers—equal to more than 23,000 meals

“The need is great,” Dhindsa emphasized. “And this year, it may be even greater.”

As food prices and rent continue their relentless climb, the Bureau braces for what could be its busiest season yet.

A Community Built on Generosity

Every toy, every dollar, and every act of kindness helps keep the holidays bright for Surrey families. The Surrey Christmas Bureau reminds everyone that together, we can make magic happen—one gift, one meal, and one smile at a time.
