Surrey police probe early Sunday shooting in Newton; no links to extortion cases, suspect in white sedan sought.
Shooting Rocks Newton Business Area
Surrey’s Newton neighborhood was jolted awake early Sunday morning as gunfire rang out in front of a local business. The Surrey Police Service (SPS) confirmed they are investigating the incident, emphasizing that it does not appear connected to the city’s ongoing extortion-related cases.
Just before 1 a.m. on October 19, authorities received multiple reports of shots fired near the intersection of King George Boulevard and 81 Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a business that had been struck by gunfire.
Victims and Suspects Fled the Scene
Investigators say the suspect targeted people inside a vehicle parked in front of the business. After the shots were fired, both the victims and the suspect fled the scene in separate vehicles. Thankfully, details about injuries have not been disclosed, and no fatalities were reported at this time.
Members of SPS’s Frontline Investigative Support Team (FLIST) are leading the investigation, combing the scene for evidence and piecing together what transpired during the early-morning chaos.
Motive Still Unknown, Police Seek Leads
While authorities are actively investigating, SPS stressed that no connection has been found between this shooting and ongoing extortion investigations in Surrey.
The suspect vehicle is described as a white, newer model four-door sedan. Police are urging anyone with information, or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage, to contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 (quote file number 25-91820) or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or solvecrime.ca.
