Surrey Firefighters Contain 2-Alarm Blaze on 106 Avenue
A two-alarm fire tore through a single-story home in north Surrey early Wednesday morning (Oct. 15), prompting a major response from fire crews.
The fire broke out around 7:50 a.m. in the 12800-block of 106 Avenue, where Surrey Fire Service teams arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence, said Assistant Fire Chief Jerry Siggs.
Two occupants managed to escape the home safely before firefighters arrived. Crews also rescued one person and a dog from a section of the house that was not yet engulfed.
Paramedics confirmed that no one required medical assessment or hospitalization, according to BC Emergency Health Services.
In total, 26 firefighters responded to the blaze. Siggs noted that while the fire was contained, the home sustained considerable damage.
There had been speculation that the house was vacant, but Siggs clarified that the residents were tenants. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and Surrey Police are assisting at the scene.
