Museum of Surrey unveils three new exhibits on hockey, Inuit history, and model ships. Free entry; open through Dec. 21, 2025.
Surrey Museum Introduces Three New Exhibitions
The Museum of Surrey has opened three new exhibitions aimed at engaging visitors with interactive and culturally relevant experiences. Museum manager Lynn Saffery described the displays as opportunities to “build resilience and well-being in our communities” while offering imaginative learning experiences.
Hockey in the Main Hall
The museum’s main hall now features “Our Connection to Hockey,” a locally curated exhibit highlighting Surrey athletes and national hockey icons. The display covers grassroots programs, women’s hockey, para hockey, and contributions from Punjabi broadcasters.
This exhibit also serves as a precursor to the newly announced Surrey Sports Hall of Fame (SSHOF), which will debut a temporary exhibit of its first inductees at the Museum of Surrey next spring. The hockey exhibit runs until April 26, 2026.
Inuit Oral History and the Franklin Expedition
In the Indigenous Hall, visitors can explore “The Ones We Met – Inuit Traditional Knowledge and the Franklin Expedition.” Curated by the Canadian Museum of History and the Inuit Heritage Trust, the exhibit showcases how Inuit oral histories helped solve the mystery of the ill-fated Franklin Expedition.
The display opens a window into Inuit perspectives and historical knowledge, running until December 21, 2025.
Model Ships Showcase Canadian Naval History
In the Community Treasures space next to the Indigenous Hall, “Fleet of Memory: Canadian Warships Remembered as Models” highlights hand-crafted scale models of Canadian Navy ships. Created by Surrey resident Yvon Lehoux, who served on two of the ships, the exhibit pairs models with archival photos, personal memorabilia, and firsthand stories.
This exhibit offers visitors a detailed look at Canada’s naval heritage and will be on display until December 21, 2025.
