Woman critically injured in overnight Surrey shooting

A woman was rushed to hospital in critical condition after a shooting at a home in Surrey early Oct. 12. Police are investigating a possible extortion link and appealing for witnesses and video.

Police probe possible extortion link

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) is investigating whether an overnight shooting is connected to the city’s ongoing extortion files.

  • Time/Location: Around 2:42 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at a residence in the 13000-block of 103A Avenue.
  • Victim: Officers arrived to find BCEHS paramedics providing life-saving intervention to a woman inside the home. She was transported to hospital in critical condition.

Highway 17 closure and scene updates

At approximately 4 a.m., SPS advised that eastbound lanes of Highway 17 at Tannery Road were closed to investigate reports of shots fired.

  • Business of scene: Officers with SPS and forensics personnel processed the residence and surrounding area for evidence.
  • Status: The investigation remains in its early stages. SPS says no arrests have been announced and motive is still under review.

Context: citywide extortion files

As of Thursday, Oct. 9, Surrey has recorded 33 extortion-related shootings in 2025 and 59 additional extortion reports not involving gunfire.

  • A provincial joint task force—including Lower Mainland RCMP detachments, CFSEU-BC, SPS, Abbotsford Police, Delta Police, CBSA and Transit Police—continues coordinated investigations.
  • SPS says it will work closely with partner agencies to determine any nexus between this incident and other files.

Appeal for witnesses and video

Investigators are asking anyone who was in the 13000-block of 103A Avenue between 2:30 and 3:00 a.m. who witnessed shots fired or suspicious activity, or who has CCTV or dashcam footage, to contact:

  • SPS non-emergency: 604-599-0502, file 25-89656 (SP)
  • Crime Stoppers: 1-800-222-8477 or solvecrime.ca

What’s next

SPS will provide further updates as the investigation advances. Residents with relevant information are urged to come forward to assist detectives and the regional task force.
