Police probe possible extortion link
The Surrey Police Service (SPS) is investigating whether an overnight shooting is connected to the city’s ongoing extortion files.
- Time/Location: Around 2:42 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at a residence in the 13000-block of 103A Avenue.
- Victim: Officers arrived to find BCEHS paramedics providing life-saving intervention to a woman inside the home. She was transported to hospital in critical condition.
Highway 17 closure and scene updates
At approximately 4 a.m., SPS advised that eastbound lanes of Highway 17 at Tannery Road were closed to investigate reports of shots fired.
- Business of scene: Officers with SPS and forensics personnel processed the residence and surrounding area for evidence.
- Status: The investigation remains in its early stages. SPS says no arrests have been announced and motive is still under review.
Context: citywide extortion files
As of Thursday, Oct. 9, Surrey has recorded 33 extortion-related shootings in 2025 and 59 additional extortion reports not involving gunfire.
- A provincial joint task force—including Lower Mainland RCMP detachments, CFSEU-BC, SPS, Abbotsford Police, Delta Police, CBSA and Transit Police—continues coordinated investigations.
- SPS says it will work closely with partner agencies to determine any nexus between this incident and other files.

Investigators are asking anyone who was in the 13000-block of 103A Avenue between 2:30 and 3:00 a.m. who witnessed shots fired or suspicious activity, or who has CCTV or dashcam footage, to contact:
