Serving Up Community Spirit on Oct. 13
It’s game, set, celebrate at The Tennis Centre Surrey as the Panorama-area facility marks its 10th anniversary with a day of fun, food and fundraising this Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 13.
Located at 5891 144 Street, the event begins at noon and features a Hit-A-Thon fundraiser benefiting the BC and Alberta Guide Dogs Association. Families, tennis fans, and newcomers alike are invited to join.
“We’re honoured to celebrate a decade of tennis, friendship and community,” said Noah Koltai, Tennis Director and event organizer. “This is about giving back while celebrating how far we’ve come.”
Guests, Games and Giving Back
The day will feature special guests including Lieutenant Governor Wendy Lisogar-Cocchia and Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke, alongside local players and coaches who’ve been part of the centre’s growth.
Activities include:
Open tennis play for all ages and skill levels
Barbecue lunch, music, and games
Ladies Social (4–6 p.m.) on all courts
80s Tennis Night — doubles in retro outfits and neon fun
A Decade of Aces in Surrey
Opened in 2015, The Tennis Centre has introduced thousands of Surrey residents to the sport, produced players with provincial, national, and international titles, and helped several athletes earn NCAA tennis scholarships at top U.S. universities.
The Surrey facility includes six indoor hard courts and six outdoor red clay courts — the only ones of their kind in Western Canada.
Built on Vision and Partnership
Six years in the making, the $2.5-million facility was created through a public-private partnership with the City of Surrey on a 17,000-square-metre site.
Back in 2015, the grand opening made local history with a 42-hour tennis marathon, where 150 players took part in what was believed to be a world record for the longest continuous practice session.
