Surrey Glows with the Spirit of Diwali 2025
Get ready, Surrey! The Festival of Lights is returning brighter than ever this October. Diwali 2025 officially falls on Monday, October 20, but the celebrations are lighting up the city all weekend long. From lively performances to cultural showcases, these events promise to fill your days (and nights) with joy, color, and community spirit.
Free Diwali Dhamaka at Civic Plaza
Circle Saturday, October 18, on your calendar because Surrey Civic Plaza is about to burst into color for the free Diwali Dhamaka. Running from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. outside City Hall (13450 104 Ave), this seven-hour celebration will feature live performances, energetic Bollywood dances, and interactive cultural experiences.
According to the city’s official website, “Diwali Dhamaka unites the community in a vibrant celebration of South Asian heritage, bringing joy, tradition, and entertainment to the heart of Surrey.”
Thanks to RED FM’s sponsorship, expect plenty of excitement — a kids’ zone, marketplace, rangoli contest, diya art, delicious food trucks, and contests with prizes. Best of all, admission is completely free for everyone.
A Night of Glamour: Diwali Gala 2025
Before the big public bash, the BC Indian Business Network (BC-IBN) will host the elegant Diwali Gala 2025 on Friday, October 17, at the Aria Convention Centre. Doors open at 5 p.m., and tickets ($161) are available on Eventbrite.
This annual gala brings together community leaders, families, and dignitaries for an evening filled with hope, unity, and pride. Guests will enjoy gourmet cuisine, cultural showcases, and the Awards of Excellence, which honor those strengthening Canada–India ties.
In celebration of BC-IBN’s 10th anniversary, part of the proceeds will be donated to the BC Cancer Agency — adding an inspiring touch of giving to the festivities.
Students Shine at KPU Diwali Celebration
The celebrations continue into next week as KPU International hosts its own Diwali event on Tuesday, October 21, from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Cedar Conference Centre, Surrey campus (12666 72 Ave).
This fun-filled afternoon invites students, staff, and faculty to come together, dress in their best cultural outfits, and enjoy music, games, henna art, diya coloring, and dance performances. Complimentary snacks and drinks will keep everyone energized as they celebrate the season of light.
Pre-registration is required on Humanitix, with priority given to current KPU students enrolled in Fall classes.
