The court proceeding in the murder case of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the president of a Surrey Sikh temple, has been postponed once more. During the hearing on October 7, Justice Terry Schultes adjourned the matter to a case management conference on November 20, with a further hearing set for December 15. A publication ban remains in effect for information shared during the session.
Nijjar, aged 45, was fatally shot on June 18, 2023, in the parking lot of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara on Scott Road in Newton. He was discovered in his vehicle. The four accused — Amandeep Singh, Karan Brar, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karanpreet Singh — face charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Supporters of Nijjar, including the group Sikhs for Justice, staged a peaceful protest outside the courthouse on the day of the hearing. The case has drawn significant attention and speculation, especially due to Nijjar’s advocacy for the Khalistan movement and allegations by some that his killing involved cross-border interference.
When court resumes in November, the parties are expected to address procedural matters and decide how the trial will proceed under tight legal constraints.
