Surrey house fire in Grandview Heights damages home, no injuries

Surrey Fire Service fought a blaze in Grandview Heights Monday night at a two-storey home. No injuries reported. Neighbourhood roads were closed during response.

Surrey Fire Service crews responded to a house fire in the Grandview Heights area of South Surrey just after 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 6.

Located in the 1900-block of 176 Street, the home was an older two-storey residence. Neighbours reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the structure as firefighters arrived on scene.

Firefighters mounted an interior attack to control the blaze while ensuring nearby homes were protected. To allow safe operations, city crews closed 176 Street in both directions during the firefighting effort.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and fire officials say it may take time to determine what triggered it.

Grandview Heights, part of South Surrey, is a growing residential neighbourhood known for its proximity to new developments and the Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre. (General area info: Grandview Heights is a well established South Surrey neighbourhood.)

Officials are asking anyone who may have witnessed unusual activity or saw smoke in the area around 176 Street Monday night to contact Surrey Fire Service or local authorities.

Updates on damage estimates, cause, and restoration will be provided as the investigation proceeds.
