Surrey announces new wrestling facility at Fleetwood Recreation Centre

Surrey will build a 6,500 sq ft wrestling facility with spectator seating and flexible community spaces at the Fleetwood recreation centre, expanding sports access.

A new wrestling and multi-purpose facility is set to open at the Surrey Sport and Leisure Complex in Fleetwood, creating a modern space for athletes and the community.

The 6,500 square foot upper-level area will include dedicated wrestling mats, spectator seating, and flexible rooms designed for training, recreation, and cultural programs. The city says the upgrade is part of a plan to meet Fleetwood’s growing needs while supporting youth and community sports.

“Fleetwood is growing fast, with 15,000 new homes and major transit on the way,” said Councillor Gordon Hepner, chair of Surrey’s Parks and Recreation Committee. “These modern accessible spaces will serve youth and families, support the development of wrestling in Surrey, and give community groups room to thrive.”

The design aims to minimize disruption to existing services while enhancing the upper level of the complex, which currently houses ice rinks, a pool, and fitness areas.

This development follows other city investments such as the upcoming free outdoor skating rink at Civic Plaza. Together, these projects reflect Surrey’s commitment to creating complete, connected neighbourhoods with accessible recreation for all residents.

Further project details, construction updates, and opening timelines will be shared as planning progresses.
