Surrey police arrested a man after shots were fired near Gateway SkyTrain station Monday afternoon. No one was injured, and the area remains under investigation.

Police are on scene near King George Boulevard

Surrey police arrest a man after shots fired near Gateway SkyTrain station. No injuries reported. Investigation and road closures continue in Whalley.

Shots Fired Near Surrey SkyTrain Station

Surrey residents were shaken Monday afternoon when gunshots rang out near the Gateway SkyTrain station in Whalley. Around 3:13 p.m., police officers in the area reported seeing a man firing shots close to University Drive and 108 Avenue. Thankfully, no one—neither the public nor the officers—was hurt during the initial incident.

Suspect Confronted at Community Police Office

The suspect fled the scene but was quickly located in front of the nearby District 1 Community Police Office. Reports indicate he fired additional shots before officers could secure the area.

Coordinated Police Response Ensures Safety

Officers from the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team and the Integrated Police Dog Service joined Surrey Police Service in apprehending the man safely. Following the arrest, the community police office temporarily closed as the RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit inspected a bag left behind by the suspect. The bag turned out to be harmless.

Investigation and Road Closures Underway

Authorities remain on the scene, collecting both physical and digital evidence. Large portions of the surrounding area, including parts of University Drive, 108 Avenue, King George Boulevard, and 107A Avenue, were closed to vehicles and pedestrians for the evening.

Public Assistance Requested

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the vicinity between 2:30 and 4 p.m.—especially near Gateway SkyTrain station—to come forward. CCTV or dashcam footage could be crucial to the investigation. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the Surrey Police Service non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 (file number 25-87819 SP) or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
