Shots Fired Near Surrey SkyTrain Station
Surrey residents were shaken Monday afternoon when gunshots rang out near the Gateway SkyTrain station in Whalley. Around 3:13 p.m., police officers in the area reported seeing a man firing shots close to University Drive and 108 Avenue. Thankfully, no one—neither the public nor the officers—was hurt during the initial incident.
Suspect Confronted at Community Police Office
The suspect fled the scene but was quickly located in front of the nearby District 1 Community Police Office. Reports indicate he fired additional shots before officers could secure the area.
Coordinated Police Response Ensures Safety
Officers from the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team and the Integrated Police Dog Service joined Surrey Police Service in apprehending the man safely. Following the arrest, the community police office temporarily closed as the RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit inspected a bag left behind by the suspect. The bag turned out to be harmless.
Investigation and Road Closures Underway
Authorities remain on the scene, collecting both physical and digital evidence. Large portions of the surrounding area, including parts of University Drive, 108 Avenue, King George Boulevard, and 107A Avenue, were closed to vehicles and pedestrians for the evening.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the vicinity between 2:30 and 4 p.m.—especially near Gateway SkyTrain station—to come forward.
