The Surrey Police Service (SPS) has announced one of the largest reward funds in Canadian policing history, offering up to $100,000 for key information that leads to an arrest and conviction in Surrey’s growing extortion cases.
Backed by a $250,000 fund approved by Surrey City Council, the reward aims to encourage community members—particularly those in the South Asian business community—to come forward with credible tips.
Police say they are witnessing a disturbing trend across Canada where people receive threatening letters, calls, texts, or social media messages demanding money.
“As of mid-September, SPS is investigating 44 extortion cases, including 27 involving shootings,” officials said.
Anyone with information can contact the Surrey Extortion Tip Line at 236-485-5149, available daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with Punjabi-speaking officers on standby. Rewards will be issued only when information leads to successful prosecution and conviction.
