South Surrey is celebrating the reopening of its newly renovated Walmart Canada store, following a multi-million-dollar modernization effort.
The upgrades are part of Walmart’s wider plan to update stores across Surrey, with more improvements still on the way. City leaders praised the investment as a timely response to the needs of a growing community.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Mayor Brenda Locke highlighted Walmart’s dual role as a business leader and community partner. The company also underscored this commitment by donating more than 13,000 pounds of food to the Surrey Food Bank, with employees playing a key role in the contribution.
“This is more than a renovation—it’s a reminder of how business growth can align with community well-being,” Locke said.
The redesigned store is expected to offer a more modern shopping experience for residents while reinforcing Walmart’s connection to Surrey through ongoing support for local organizations.
