Hockey Heroes Hit Surrey Ice for Canucks Autism Charity

Hockey legends and local players unite in Surrey for the 7th Canucks Autism Network Pro-Am, raising funds to support autism programs across B.C. Catch the action Oct. 18–19 at the North Surrey Sport and Ice Complex, with admission by donation.

Hockey Stars and Everyday Players Unite for a Cause

Get ready, hockey fans — Surrey’s ice is heating up this October! The Canucks Autism Network (CAN) Pro-Am tournament is back for its 7th year, and this time, it’s bringing some serious star power to the rink.

From October 18–19, the North Surrey Sport and Ice Complex will host a weekend of unforgettable hockey action. Former NHL greats, including Mark Recchi, Brad May, Mason Raymond, Meghan Agosta, and Greg Adams, will lace up their skates alongside local “Average Joes” in support of autism programs across British Columbia.

And here’s the best part — fans can catch all the excitement by donation.

A Weekend of Hockey and Heart

The CAN Pro-Am isn’t your typical tournament. It’s where rec players get the once-in-a-lifetime chance to share the ice with their hockey heroes. Teams raise money for the opportunity to draft a former NHL player during a special Draft Night event on October 17 at Vancouver’s Westin Bayshore Hotel.

Each team must raise at least $25,000 to participate — and the more funds they raise, the better their shot at picking their favorite NHL alumni.

Due to massive interest, this year’s event is by invitation only, but fans can still be part of the action from the stands in Surrey.

Record-Breaking Support for a Meaningful Mission

Last year’s CAN Pro-Am was a smash hit, pulling in over $1 million in donations. Eighteen teams, more than 250 players, and 18 retired pros came together to help fund programs that support autistic individuals and their families across the province.

This year promises to be even bigger — with more star players, more teams, and more heart.

A Chance to Skate with Hockey Royalty

Players won’t just walk away with memories — they’ll enjoy pro-level perks, including stocked dressing rooms, custom equipment, and the thrill of playing shoulder-to-shoulder with hockey legends.

Past participants have included fan favorites like Todd Bertuzzi, Ryan Kesler, Matt Cooke, and Eddie Lack, making it one of the most unique and inspiring events in the hockey calendar.

Giving Back Through the Game

Four-time participant and former Canucks winger Brad May summed it up perfectly:

“As NHL alumni, we have a platform to give back. Autistic individuals need an outlet for their passions, and CAN gives kids, youth, and adults that opportunity. It’s beautiful.”

For these players, it’s more than just a game — it’s a way to make a real difference through the sport they love.
