Newton is quickly becoming one of Surrey’s most vibrant neighbourhoods, and new transit figures confirm its rapid growth.
According to TransLink, the Newton Exchange recorded an average of 35,000 weekday boardings across 14 routes in Fall 2024, making it one of the busiest transit exchanges in the region. The milestone highlights how quickly the community is expanding and the increasing demand for reliable transit access.
Mayor Brenda Locke called Newton’s progress “a clear sign of how quickly the community is growing.” Events like the State of Newton forum, she added, give residents and leaders a chance to reflect on this progress and plan for the future.
The mayor also thanked the Newton Business Improvement Association (BIA) and its members for their leadership, and acknowledged TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn for recognizing Surrey’s need for improved transit connectivity.
With Newton Exchange now cemented as a critical hub, city officials say it underscores the importance of continued investment in transit infrastructure as Surrey grows into one of B.C.’s fastest-developing regions.
