Country musician Tony Stevens has traded Surrey for Calgary, citing affordability, family life, and music opportunities as reasons behind the summer move.
“Just a little bit of everything,” Stevens said. “The Lower Mainland is getting a little less affordable every year, and our neighbourhood was facing heavy development. We didn’t really want to be stuck in that construction for the next five to ten years.”
Raised in Coquitlam and later Surrey, the singer-songwriter is best known for his hit Whiskey In Colorado. His debut album Days Like This, released in May 2025, has already crossed six million streams.
This September, Stevens was back in B.C. for the Canadian Country Music Association Awards in Kelowna, where he was nominated for Breakthrough Artist/Group of the Year. He also performed at the Barnside Harvest Festival in Delta.
“It’s amazing to be recognized by the CCMAs. Whether or not you win, it’s an honour to be on the same list as the artists nominated,” he said.
In addition to his CCMA nod, Stevens won BC Country Music Association awards for Male Artist, Song, and Songwriter of the Year in 2025.
Looking ahead, Stevens is back in the studio this fall, planning to release new tracks and possibly tour in 2026.
More than a decade ago, Stevens survived a near-fatal wakeboarding accident that left him with a brain bleed. “It made me realize you never know how long you have in this life—so why not pursue your passion?” he recalled. That decision set him on the road to becoming one of Canada’s most promising country acts.
