Charges Announced in Surrey Case
A 42-year-old Surrey man, Kulwinder Mann, has been charged in connection with an alleged sexual assault and theft that occurred in the early hours of Aug. 26. Police confirmed the charges, which include sexual assault, theft under $5,000, and assault, in a statement released Thursday, Oct. 2.
Early Morning Incidents on King George Boulevard
According to Surrey Police Service, the first incident took place around 3:10 a.m. in the 9800-block of King George Boulevard. A man walking in the area was approached by a stranger who allegedly stole his phone before fleeing.
Woman Reportedly Assaulted Shortly After
A short time later, police say a woman walking in the same area was confronted by a man described as an adult South Asian male. After a brief exchange, he allegedly pushed her into nearby bushes and sexually assaulted her before leaving the scene on foot.
Swift Identification by Investigators
The following day, Aug. 27, police issued an appeal for public assistance in identifying the suspect. By that afternoon, investigators reported they had identified a man in connection with the incidents.
Charges Laid and Court Appearance
Mann was formally charged with three offences: sexual assault, theft under $5,000, and assault. He remains in custody and was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, Oct. 2.
