The alerts now cover the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, and Okanagan, with smoke expected to persist for the next 48 hours. Heat warnings are also in effect for regions including Kamloops, Ashcroft, and Bella Coola, with temperatures reaching the mid-30s. Officials warn smoke conditions can change rapidly, posing health risks to vulnerable groups such as seniors, children, and those with medical conditions. Residents are advised to limit outdoor activity, with a gradual cooling trend expected by the weekend.
Surrey offers plenty of ways to beat the summer heat, from family-friendly pools and spray parks to shaded escapes in Bear Creek Park and Green Timbers Urban Forest.
