Vancouver FC face Whitecaps in the 2025 Canadian Championship Final, chasing history in their first Voyageurs Cup showdown at BC Place.
Vancouver FC Set for Their Biggest Test Yet
The stage is set. On Wednesday night, under the bright lights of BC Place, Vancouver FC will face the Vancouver Whitecaps in the 2025 TELUS Canadian Championship Final. For the first time ever, two Metro Vancouver teams will go head-to-head in a competitive match—and the stakes could not be higher.
The winner not only claims the Voyageurs Cup but also secures a coveted spot in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup. The Whitecaps enter as three-time defending champions, while VFC arrive as history-makers—the first Canadian Premier League (CPL) side to reach the tournament’s final.
“Stick to What Works,” Says Captain Irving
Team captain Callum Irving has been urging his teammates to trust their habits instead of reinventing the wheel.
“You all have your routines, and you all have your preparations, and you need to stick to that,” Irving explained. “It’s just 90 minutes of football.”
When asked about nerves, the goalkeeper insisted the feeling was more excitement than fear. “For us, it’s a really fun challenge. We’ll respect them, but we’ll be coming in to win.”
Coach Nash Faces Familiar Opponents
On the sidelines, interim head coach Martin Nash knows exactly what his players are up against. A former Whitecaps midfielder himself, Nash has coached against his old club several times, but he admits this one feels different.
“They’re the best team we’ll face this year, by far,” he said. “It’s a tall task for our guys.”
Still, Nash believes momentum is on their side. VFC are riding back-to-back wins, and he’s noticed a sharper focus in training. “It’s nice that we’re in a good moment,” he said. “The players are all buying into what we’re doing.”
A City Divided, A Night United
The match will draw fans from across the region, including two buses of diehard VFC supporters departing from Willoughby Community Park for the short 40-kilometre trip into the city.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., and while the Whitecaps carry the weight of expectation, Vancouver FC bring the hunger of underdogs chasing history.
As Irving summed it up: “It’s two teams playing the same sport for 90 minutes. Anything can happen.”
