Jazz Returns to the White Rock Stage
A White Rock concert is set to light up Culture Crawl weekend with the timeless energy of live jazz. On Saturday, Oct. 4, Alexander Browne and his Boulevardiers will fill the Elks Club Hall with the irresistible sounds of the 1920s and 1930s. The evening begins at 7:30 p.m. and promises both dancing and listening pleasure in a setting that celebrates community, music, and history.
A Weekend Full of Arts and Music
Although not officially part of the Culture Crawl lineup, the band’s performance adds a rich musical layer to a weekend already bursting with creativity. Maestro Browne, a familiar name in the community and longtime journalist, says the group is thrilled to contribute to the region’s vibrant arts scene. For audiences, it’s the perfect opportunity to balance visual art during the day with live music at night.
A Bigger Venue, More Room to Dance
This year’s event takes place in the spacious main auditorium of the White Rock Elks Club on George Street. After outgrowing their previous venue, the band wanted a location that offers more room for fans who love to dance. The hall also ensures guests who purchase tickets at the door have plenty of space to enjoy the evening.
Step Back in Style
Part of the evening’s charm lies in the chance to dress up. While not required, many attendees embrace the theme by donning dapper suits, flapper dresses, and vintage accessories. Add in a full-service cash bar, and the atmosphere promises a lively mix of elegance and fun.
The Music and the Musicians
The Boulevardiers will deliver their trademark blend of torch songs, novelty tunes, and upbeat dance numbers. Alison Lumley, the group’s captivating chanteuse, brings her unique style to the stage, while Browne adds both vocals and trumpet solos. Fans will also be delighted by the return of the original full ensemble: Henry Christian on trumpet, Jeremy Berkman on trombone, Tony Sheppard and Graham Howell on reeds, Angus Kellett on keyboard, David Sabourin on tuba, and John Cody on his vintage 1929 Leedy “Jazz Pirates” drum kit.
How to Get Tickets
Tickets are $35, available in cash at the door or in advance at Five Corners Café on Johnston Road. With growing anticipation, fans are encouraged to secure tickets early and prepare for a night of swinging rhythms, smooth melodies, and good company.
This White Rock concert not only revives the golden age of jazz but also brings the community together for a night of joy, style, and unforgettable music.
