Bus ridership in Surrey’s Newton area has seen a major surge since the introduction of the R6 RapidBus, according to TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn.
Speaking ahead of the State of Newton event on Oct. 2, Quinn confirmed that ridership on the new rapid transit line has already doubled compared to previous bus service in the corridor.
The R6 RapidBus, launched earlier this year, connects Newton and Guildford, providing faster, more reliable service along one of Surrey’s busiest transit routes. The jump in ridership signals strong community demand for improved transit options and is being viewed by TransLink as an early success story.
Quinn is expected to expand on these results during his keynote at the upcoming Newton event, which will bring together community and business leaders to discuss local priorities, development, and transit improvements.
The RapidBus service is part of TransLink’s broader expansion plan aimed at improving connectivity across Metro Vancouver, reducing congestion, and supporting future population growth. In Surrey, the R6 has quickly established itself as a vital link for daily commuters and students alike.
