Firefighters battled a blaze at the long-abandoned Noble Custom Cut mill in Maple Ridge on Sunday night, Sept. 21. The fire, reported around 5:45 p.m., sent thick smoke into the sky from the main mill building at 25862 Lougheed Hwy., near the Fraser River. Maple Ridge Fire Department led the response, assisted by Mission Fire Rescue Service. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Fire Erupts at Abandoned Maple Ridge Mill

Firefighters battle blaze at defunct Noble Custom Cut mill in Maple Ridge, sending thick smoke into the sky Sunday evening.

Blaze Engulfs Idle Mill

Maple Ridge firefighters responded to a significant fire at a long-closed forestry mill on Sunday night, Sept. 21. Thick smoke was reported pouring from the main building at Noble Custom Cut, prompting multiple emergency crews to rush to the scene.

Location of the Incident

The fire occurred at 25862 Lougheed Hwy., on the south side of the highway near the Fraser River. The site has been inactive for seven to eight years, with no workers present at the time of the blaze.

Equipment and Hazards on Site

Although the mill has been out of operation for years, saws and other industrial equipment remained inside the building. Firefighters faced potential hazards from the abandoned machinery and materials as they worked to control the flames.

Emergency Response Efforts

Crews from Maple Ridge Fire Department led the operation, supported by units from Mission Fire Rescue Service. At least six fire trucks were observed coming and going, with additional trucks hauling water to the scene to assist containment.

Cause Still Under Investigation

Officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation once the site is secure.

Community Impact

The fire sent visible smoke clouds across the surrounding area, but no injuries were reported. Local residents and drivers on Lougheed Highway were advised to avoid the area while emergency crews managed the situation.
