Surrey high school football teams hit the field as the 2024 season begins. See which squads are in action and when to catch the big games.
Friday Nights Under the Lights
The wait is finally over—high school football season has kicked off in Surrey, and fans are ready for the action. While some teams are still wrapping up exhibition play, others are already diving into regular-season matchups starting Friday, Sept. 19.
The B.C. High Schools Football Association has officially opened its fall schedule, with Surrey squads stepping up to make their mark on the gridiron.
Surrey’s Varsity Teams to Watch
Among Surrey’s senior teams, Cloverdale’s Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers stand tall. Ranked No. 5 in the province, they are the only local school competing in the top-tier AAA division. The Panthers share the competitive Central conference with North Delta’s Seaquam Seahawks and other powerhouse programs across the Lower Mainland.
At the AA varsity level, Surrey is well represented. The Sullivan Heights Stars, Earl Marriott Mariners, and Holy Cross Crusaders are gearing up for a season of hard-fought battles in the AAA/AA East conference, where they’ll face off against teams from Abbotsford and Mission.
Big Games on the Horizon
Friday, Sept. 19, marks a packed slate of regular-season openers:
- Holy Cross Crusaders will host John Barsby at 1 p.m.
- Earl Marriott Mariners will clash with Windsor in South Surrey at 2 p.m.
- Sullivan Heights Stars hit the road to face West Vancouver at 3:30 p.m.
Recent exhibition results have already set the tone. Holy Cross, currently ranked No. 7, fell 31-3 to St. Thomas More on Sept. 13, while Sullivan Heights pulled off a 16-8 win against Nanaimo District just a day earlier.

What’s Next for Surrey Football
Fans won’t have to wait long for more action. On Friday, Sept. 26:
- Sullivan Heights hosts Ballenas at Cloverdale Athletic Park (2:30 p.m.).
- Holy Cross travels to Argyle in North Vancouver (3 p.m.).
- Earl Marriott heads to Nanaimo for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
