Kelowna Hosts Historic CCMA Awards Night
Country music fans gathered at Prospera Place in Kelowna on Saturday, Sept. 13, for a landmark evening as the city hosted the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards for the first time. The event marked a significant milestone in Canadian country music history, bringing artists and fans together in a celebration of talent.
Cameron Whitcomb Shines on Home Stage
Nanaimo native Cameron Whitcomb emerged as the evening’s standout, winning two prestigious awards: Fans’ Choice and Breakthrough Artist or Group of the Year. Whitcomb, who was nominated six times alongside Ontario’s Josh Ross, captivated audiences with his energetic performances and rising star appeal.
Other Top Winners of the Night
Ontario’s Josh Ross also made headlines, securing Entertainer of the Year, Single of the Year, and Video of the Year for Single Again. Owen Riegling won Album of the Year for Bruce County (From The Beginning), while Mackenzie Porter and Jade Eagleson were named Female and Male Artists of the Year, respectively. The James Barker Band received Group or Duo of the Year, and Salebarbes earned Francophone Artist of the Year.
Celebrating Canadian Country Music Talent
Additional accolades highlighted the diversity of Canadian country music. Madeline Merlo featuring Dustin Lynch took Musical Collaboration of the Year for Broken Heart Thing, Jake Vaadeland won Alternative Country Album of the Year for One More Dollar To Go, and the Songwriter(s) of the Year award went to Kelly Archer, Travis Denning, and Chris Stevens for I’m Gonna Love You, performed by Cody Johnson and Carrie Underwood.

CCMA president Amy Jeninga praised Kelowna’s unique blend of charm and urban energy, stating that the city would “showcase the best in Canadian country music.” This was the first time Kelowna hosted Country Music Week alongside the awards, signaling its growing significance on the national cultural stage.
