Signing Announcement

Vancouver Rise FC confirmed Thursday, September 11, that the club has signed New Zealand defender Rebecca Lake. The move strengthens Rise FC’s defensive line as the team pushes deeper into the inaugural Northern Super League season.

Player Background

Lake arrives from the A-League’s Wellington Phoenix FC, where she made 19 appearances over two seasons and served as vice-captain. Known for her composure on the ball and vocal leadership, the 25-year-old centre back adds international experience to Vancouver’s growing roster.

Club Perspective

“We’re excited to welcome Rebecca Lake to our roster,” said interim sporting director Robyn Gale. “Rebecca brings an ambitious mindset with strong leadership qualities, adding valuable depth at the centre back position.”

Player’s Reaction

Lake expressed enthusiasm about her new chapter in Canada. “I’m already loving the environment here at Vancouver Rise — great players, but even better people,” she said. “Everyone’s got a winning mindset, and I can’t wait to get involved.”

Coaching Outlook

Head coach Anja Heiner-Møller praised the defender’s early impact. “Rebecca comes in with great experience and leadership skills as a centre back. She has only been with us for a few days, but her willingness to impact the ball and positive mindset has been noticed already,” she noted.

Upcoming Match and League Context

Rise FC’s next test comes quickly, with a matchup against AFC Toronto on Saturday, September 13, at York Lions Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. Vancouver is one of six founding clubs in the Northern Super League, Canada’s first professional women’s soccer league, alongside Calgary Wild FC, Halifax Tides FC, Montréal Roses, Ottawa Rapid FC and AFC Toronto. The top four teams will advance to the semifinals at season’s end.
