New Surrey Series Kicks Off with Afternoon Concerts
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) has announced a major scheduling shift: beginning September 21, 2025, concerts in its new Surrey Sundays series will start at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoons at Bell Performing Arts Centre. The move replaces its traditional Sunday evening showtimes.
Featured Soloist, Program, and Maestro
American pianist Anne-Marie McDermott—hailed as “one of the most dazzling American pianists of her generation”—will make her VSO debut in Surrey performing Beethoven’s Second and Fourth Piano Concertos. The orchestra, under conductor Otto Tausk, will also present Louise Farrenc’s Third Symphony and Mozart’s overture from Così fan tutte.
Why the Time Change?
The VSO aims to offer greater accessibility and convenience for Surrey audiences. Afternoon performances are intended to better accommodate family-goers and those travelling from other parts of the Metro Vancouver region, avoiding late-night travel concerns.
Series Lineup through the Season
The Surrey Sundays series will run five concerts at Bell’s in-school theatre, plus the annual Traditional Christmas concerts (Dec. 13). Highlights include Faure’s Requiem (Nov. 9), Tchaikovsky & Rachmaninoff with Joyce Yang (Jan. 25), Ravel’s Bolero with Colin Currie (March 1), and The Music of James Bond (May 10, 2026), featuring vocalist Jimmie Herrod.
