Mercury Rising: Where to Beat the Heat in Surrey, White Rock, and Delta

As temperatures climb and wildfire smoke lingers in the air, communities across Surrey, White Rock, and Delta are stepping up with cooling centres, misting tents, and community spaces to help residents—and even pets—find relief.

Heat Alert Issued for the Region

The Homelessness Services Association of B.C. issued a heat alert on Friday, Sept. 5, after humidex values made it feel like 29˚C or hotter in some areas. In White Rock, Environment Canada forecast highs of 23˚C with a humidex of 30˚C, plus a special air quality advisory due to wildfire smoke.

Staying Safe in the Heat

With temperatures climbing and air quality warnings in place, residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity, and check on vulnerable neighbours. Pets are welcome at many cooling sites, so furry friends don’t get left behind.

Relief is just around the corner—whether through misting tents, indoor cooling centres, or a shaded community library, there are plenty of ways to keep cool this weekend.
