Fraudsters Spoof Surrey Police Phone Number, SPS Warns

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) is warning residents about fraudsters spoofing its non-emergency number, 604-599-0502. Scammers are posing as officers, sometimes using fake names and badge numbers, to trick people into giving personal or financial information. SPS stresses it will never call to request money or sensitive details. Residents are urged to hang up, avoid clicking on links, and verify suspicious calls by dialing the official non-emergency line directly. Authorities also encourage reporting such scams to police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

Surrey doctor acquitted in patient assault trial

A Surrey doctor has been acquitted of sexually assaulting a patient after a judge found inconsistencies in the complainant’s testimony. Dr. Olumuyiwa Akinwumi Bamgbade, an anaesthesiologist, was accused of kissing and touching a 66-year-old patient without consent at his pain clinic in 2022. Judge Mark Jetté ruled that the patient’s account was incompatible with the clinic’s examination room layout and raised doubts about its reliability. Bamgbade was found not guilty.
