103-Year-Old Surrey Schoolhouse Removed from Heritage List

A 103-year-old schoolhouse in South Surrey, demolished in 2023, will be officially removed from the City of Surrey’s Community Heritage Register. The Grandview Heights Elementary School Annex, located at 17561 20 Avenue, was delisted following a unanimous city council vote on July 28, based on a recommendation from the Surrey Heritage Advisory Commission. Built in 1922, the one-room annex was recognized for its historical value and added to the Canadian Register of Historic Places in 2009. City staff confirmed the site is owned by the Surrey School Board, and heritage documentation was archived prior to demolition. The future of the site remains uncertain.
