White Rock hillside fire swiftly contained by crews

White Rock firefighters and BC Wildfire Service crews quickly contained a 0.9-hectare hillside brush fire on Marine Drive, keeping homes safe.

Fire breaks out on Marine Drive hillside

Fire crews in White Rock were called to a brush fire on a steep waterfront hillside on Sunday afternoon, August 31. The blaze, reported between the railway tracks and homes along Marine Drive west of Nichol Road, drew a rapid response from both White Rock Fire Rescue and the B.C. Wildfire Service.

Crews launch coordinated ground and air attack

Responders battled the flames from the ground while helicopters made aerial drops to slow the fire’s spread. Marine Drive was temporarily closed between Nichol Road and Bergstrom Avenue as crews worked to contain the fire in challenging terrain.

Fire brought under control within hours

By 2 p.m., officials confirmed the fire was in its cleanup phase. The B.C. Wildfire Service later updated its fire map, classifying the 0.9-hectare blaze as “under control.” The cause remains under investigation.

Residents relieved as homes remain safe

No evacuations were required, and homes above Marine Drive remained secure. Local residents expressed relief on social media, praising the speed and professionalism of the firefighting teams. “Thanks to the quick action of White Rock Fire and local authorities, it was under control fast,” wrote resident Shelby Ann Gordon.

Ongoing vigilance despite success

While the immediate danger has passed, authorities continue to monitor the area. White Rock Fire Rescue was unavailable for further comment as crews were dispatched to another call shortly after the fire was contained.
