BC Muslim Association to Host Anti-Gang Forum in Surrey
Community Calls for Action
The BC Muslim Association is bringing Surrey residents together for an inter-faith public safety forum aimed at addressing the city’s ongoing gang violence concerns.
Event Details
The Guns, Drugs and Gangs Forum will take place on Sunday, August 31, at Surrey Jamea Masjid (12407 72 Ave.). The event begins after Zohar prayer, running from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m..
Speakers and Participants
Keynote speaker Yusef-Andre Wiley, a former Blood Gang member from Los Angeles, will share his personal experience with gangs and transformation. Local voices including Imam Osama Raj, community members, and elected officials are also expected to participate.
Purpose of the Forum
Organizers say the initiative is designed to protect youth, provide parents with tools, and build safer neighbourhoods. The event encourages families, leaders, and young people to listen, learn, and take concrete steps toward preventing gang involvement.
Organizers and Partners
The forum is hosted by the BC Muslim Association in partnership with the Foundation for a Path Forward and KidsPlay Foundation, with support from SACH BC (South Asian Community Hub), Moving Forward Family Services, and Penny Appeal Canada.
How to Attend
Attendance is free, but organizers request advance registration to ensure space and planning. The event is open to parents, youth, and all community members concerned about safety in Surrey.
