White Rock Splash Pad Opens with Community Celebration

Grand Opening Brings Families Together

White Rock’s newest attraction, the Generations Playground Splash Pad, officially opened at Centennial Park on August 21. The event drew more than 60 attendees, including families, city officials, and community partners, marking a lively debut for the long-awaited feature.

City Leaders and Partners in Attendance

Mayor Megan Knight and city council members joined the celebration, alongside representatives from the White Rock Firefighters Charity Association, Peace Arch Hospital Foundation, and GPM Civil Contracting. Their contributions were instrumental in bringing the splash pad from vision to reality.

Community Support Makes Project Possible

The project benefited from significant local support. The Peace Arch Hospital Foundation directed a $100,000 donation from the Denis and Yvonne Blakely Trust toward construction, while the White Rock Firefighters Charity Association contributed $119,500 in recognition of community supporter Myra Merkal. GPM Civil Contracting, the project’s builder, was also commended for completing the splash pad ahead of schedule.

A Celebration of Fun and Philanthropy

The highlight of the event came when children from White Rock Summer Camp tested the splash pad with playful energy. Even Fire Chief Brad Davie joined in, stepping under the soaker bucket for a celebratory splash. The joyful scene underscored the project’s success as a space designed to bring generations together.

Looking Ahead

City officials emphasized the splash pad’s role as a lasting community hub. By blending recreation with recognition of local philanthropy, the Generations Playground Splash Pad reflects White Rock’s commitment to building spaces that encourage family fun, inclusivity, and community spirit.
